Abincin Berber kodayake ba shi da tsari na abinci na musamman da daidaitaccen tsarin abinci, ya ƙunshi nau'ikan kayan gargajiya daban-daban kuma ya rinjayi dandano da yawa daga yankuna daban-daban a duk faɗin Arewacin Afirka. [1] Babu abincin Berber mai daidaituwa, kuma an fallasa shi ga tasiri daban-daban. Zaɓin abinci na Berbers an tsara shi ne ta hanyar wadatar abinci da kudaden mutum.[2] Berbers suna bin dokokin abinci iri ɗaya da bukatun tsabta kamar sauran Musulmai. Ken Albala ya lura cewa "Bayyana abinci kamar yadda yawanci Berber ba zai yiwu ba - a mafi kyau, samfurori ne na abin da iyalan Berber ke ci a yankuna daban-daban".[3]
Abinci na Berber ya bambanta daga yanki zuwa wani a cikin Arewacin Afirka da Yammacin Afirka (Mauritania). Saboda wannan dalili, kowane tasa yana da bambanci da na musamman da kuma dandano bisa ga takamaiman yankin da ya samo asali daga Arewacin Afirka, tare da wasu jita-jita da aka kiyasta sun wuce shekaru dubu. Zayanes na yankin Khenifra a kusa da Tsakiyar Atlas suna da abinci mai sauƙi. Ya dogara ne da masara, sha'ir, madarar saniya, cuku na awaki, man shanu, zuma, nama, da wasa.[4]
