Argo wani shiri ne na kasa da kasa don binciken teku. Yana amfani da fasalin fasalin don lura da zafin jiki, salinity da raƙuman ruwa. Kwanan nan ya lura da kaddarorin bio-optical a cikin tekun Duniya. Yana aiki tun farkon 2000s. Bayanan ainihin lokacin yana ba da tallafin yanayi da binciken teku. Wani sha'awar bincike na musamman shine don ƙididdige abubuwan da ke cikin zafi na teku (OHC). Rundunar Argo ta ƙunshi kusan 4000 "Argo floats" (kamar yadda ake kiran jiragen ruwa da shirin Argo ke amfani da su sau da yawa) da aka tura a duk duniya. Kowane jirgin ruwa yana da nauyin kilo 20 zuwa 30. A mafi yawan lokuta binciken yana motsawa a zurfin mita 1000. Masana suna kiran wannan zurfin filin ajiye motoci. Kowace kwanaki 10, ta hanyar canza tsalle-tsalle, suna nutsewa zuwa zurfin mita 2000 sannan su koma saman teku. Yayin da suke motsawa suna auna conductivity da yanayin zafin jiki da matsin lamba. Masana kimiyya suna lissafin salinity da yawa daga waɗannan ma'auni. Rashin ruwa na teku yana da mahimmanci wajen tantance manyan motsi a cikin teku.   

Matsakaicin saurin yanzu a mita 1000 ana auna shi kai tsaye ta hanyar nesa da kuma jagorancin da ke iyo yayin da aka ajiye shi a wannan zurfin, wanda aka ƙayyade ta GPS ko matsayi na Tsarin Argos a farfajiya. Ana watsa bayanan zuwa bakin teku ta hanyar tauraron dan adam, kuma ana samun su kyauta ga kowa, ba tare da ƙuntatawa ba. 

An sanya sunan shirin Argo ne bayan jirgin ruwan Girka mai suna Argo don jaddada alaƙar Argo tare da Jason satellite altimeters. Dukkanin Argo floats da tauraron dan adam 4 da aka kaddamar har zuwa yanzu don saka idanu kan sauya matakin teku duk suna aiki a kan zagaye na aiki na kwanaki 10.

Shirin Argo haɗin gwiwa ne na kasashe sama da 30 daga dukkan nahiyoyi (wanda aka fi nunawa a taswirar hoto a cikin wannan labarin) wanda ke kula da jerin duniya kuma yana ba da bayanan da kowa zai iya amfani da shi don bincika yanayin teku. Argo wani bangare ne na Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS), [1] kuma ƙungiyar Argo Steering Team ce ke tsara shi, ƙungiyar masana kimiyya da ƙwararrun fasaha ta duniya waɗanda ke haɗuwa sau ɗaya a shekara. Rashin bayanan Argo yana sarrafawa ta hanyar Argo Data Management Team. Har ila yau, Argo tana samun goyon baya daga Ƙungiyar a kan Binciken Duniya, kuma an amince da ita tun daga farkonta ta Shirin Binciken Yanayi na Duniya na CLIVAR Project (Variability da tsinkaya na tsarin yanayi na teku), da kuma gwajin Bayanan Bayanan Duniya (GODAE OceanView).

An fara gabatar da shirin da ake kira Argo a OceanObs 1999 wanda taron ne da hukumomin kasa da kasa suka shirya tare da manufar samar da tsarin daidaitawa ga lura da teku. Wani karamin rukuni na masana kimiyya ne ya kirkiro asalin Argo, wanda Dean Roemmich ke jagoranta, wanda ya bayyana shirin da zai sami jerin duniya na kimanin 3000 a wani lokaci a cikin 2007. Kungiyar Argo Steering Team ta yi rahoto na shekaru 10 ga OceanObs-2009 [3] kuma ta sami shawarwari game da yadda za a iya inganta jerin. Wadannan shawarwari sun hada da inganta jerin a manyan latitudes, a cikin tekuna masu iyaka (kamar Gulf of Mexico da Bahar Rum) da kuma tare da ma'auni, inganta lura da karfi na iyaka (kasar Gulf Stream da Kuroshio), fadada lura a cikin ruwa mai zurfi da kuma kara na'urori masu auna sigina don saka idanu kan canje-canje na halitta da sinadarai a cikin teku. A watan Nuwamba na shekara ta 2012 wani jirgin ruwa na Indiya a cikin jerin Argo ya tattara bayanin martaba miliyan daya (sau biyu adadin da jiragen bincike suka tattara a duk karni na 20) wani taron da aka ruwaito a cikin sakonnin manema labarai da yawa.[4][5] Kamar yadda za'a iya gani a cikin makircin da ya saba, a farkon 2018 shirin Bio-Argo yana fadada cikin sauri.[6]
