Die Erkrankung dauert typischerweise mehrere Wochen und beeinträchtigt vor allem kleine Kinder durch schwere stakkatoartige Hustenanfälle mit pfeifender Einatmung zum Ende des Anfalls und Erbrechen von zähem Schleim.
English: This image depicts a young boy who presented to a clinic suffering from what was diagnosed as pertussis.
Pertussis is a highly communicable, vaccine-preventable disease due to Bordetella pertussis, a gram-negative coccobacillus, lasting for many weeks and typically afflicts children with severe coughing, whooping, and posttussive vomiting.
