Wasu masana sun ce IWRM yana da alaƙa da tsaron ruwa saboda tsaron ruwa manufa ce ko manufa, yayin da IWRM shine tsarin da ake buƙata don cimma wannan burin.

A shekara ta 2002, an tattauna ci gaban IWRM a taron koli na duniya kan ci gaba mai dorewa da aka gudanar a Johannesburg, wanda ke da nufin ƙarfafa aiwatar da IWRM a matakin duniya.
