Arthropods, gami da sauro, ticks, biting midges, Blackflies, sandflies, tsetse flies, triatome bugs, lice, fleas, da thrips, sun samar da babban rukuni na pathogen vectors, suna watsa adadi mai yawa na pathogens. Yawancin irin waɗannan vectors suna haematophagous, ma'ana suna cin jini a wasu ko duk matakan rayuwarsu. Lokacin da kwari da ƙwayoyin cuta ke cin jini, kwayar cutar ta shiga cikin jini na mai masaukin.[1][2] Wadannan pathogens suna maimaitawa a cikin vector kuma vector sau da yawa mai ɗaukar sauran rayuwarsa. Kwayar cutar tana yaduwa ga sabbin rundunonin daga vector a lokacin cin abinci na jini.[3]
Lokacin da sauro ya sha jini daga mutum ko dabba, kwayar cuta daga wannan mai masaukin zai iya wucewa daga cikin sauro zuwa jikin sauro, idan wannan kwayar cutaa ta iya girma a cikin sauro. Sauro na Aedes yana watsa chikungunya, dengue, lymphatic filariasis, Rift Valley fever, yellow fever, da Zika.[1] Kwayar cutar chikungunya tana da alaƙa da kwayar cutar O'nyong'nyong wacce sauro na Anopheles ke ɗauka, tare da ƙwayoyin cuta biyu suna cikin nau'in Alphavirus.[2] Dengue, Rift Valley zazzabi, yellow zazzabi da Zika duk sun samo asali ne daga ƙwayoyin cuta.[1]
Sauro na Culex suna aiki ne a matsayin masu ɗaukar ƙwayoyin cuta na Japan, filariasis na lymphatic, da zazzabin Nilu na Yamma. Encephalitis na Japan da zazzabin Yammacin Nilu duka suna haifar da ƙwayoyin cuta.[1]
An san ƙwayoyin cuta da ɗaukar ƙwayoyin cututtuka daban-daban sama da ɗari, gami da ƙwayoyin ƙwayoyin halitta, ƙwayoyin daji, da ƙwayoyi. Ana samun waɗannan ƙwayoyin cuta a Turai, Asiya, da Arewacin Amurka.[13] Tsuntsaye suna aiki ne a matsayin masu yaduwa ga cututtuka irin su Cutar Lyme, encephalitis mai yaduwa, zazzabin jini na Crimea-Congo, zazzabi mai dawowa (wanda ake kira borreliosis), cututtukan rickettsial kamar zazzabi, da Tularemia.[1] Cutar Lyme, sake dawowa zazzabi, cututtukan rickettsial, da tularaemia suna haifar da kwayoyin cuta. Kodayake sauro na Aedes suna iya ɗaukar kwayar cutar oropouche kuma suna taka rawa wajen yaduwar kwayar cutar a cikin dabbobi na daji kamar su sloths masu yatsunsu uku, primates, da tsuntsaye, cutar galibi tana yaduwa tsakanin mutane a cikin birane ta hanyar cinye tsutsa, musamman Culicoides paraensi .
