An ƙirƙiro shi a ƙarshen shekarun 1970 da farkon shekarun 1980 ta hannun mai ba da shawara kan ilimi na ƙasar Holland Maria Aarts. Ta fahimci wahalhalun da ake fuskanta wajen bayyana matsalolin da yara ke fuskanta a fannin kimiyya, domin galibi ba sa iya fahimtar kalmomin koyarwa da kuma gano muhimmancin waɗannan fahimta a cikin yanayin rayuwar yau da kullum.
Dabarar da ta ƙirƙiro ita ce ta tattara bayanai game da hulɗar da ke tsakanin yaro da malami ta hanyar bidiyo, sannan daga baya iyaye ko wasu malamai su kalli waɗannan bidiyon don ba da damar tattaunawa tare. A shekarar 1987, Maria Aarts ta kafa ƙungiyar Marte Meo, wadda ke da nufin koyar da masu ba da shawara kan ilimi yadda ake amfani da hanyar Marte Meo.
Ana gudanar da aikin Marte Meo a ƙasashen Netherlands, Scandinavia, Faransa, Ireland da Indiya. A waɗannan ƙasashe, ana ɗaukarsa a matsayin mai tasiri, mai araha kuma mai amfani.
