Burundi tana fuskantar lokacin bushewa tsakanin Mayu da Agusta, tare da ɗan gajeren lokacin bushewa wanda ke faruwa tsakanin Janairu da Fabrairu.[1] Lokacin ruwan sama yana faruwa tsakanin Fabrairu da Mayu, da Satumba zuwa Nuwamba.[3] Ruwan sama na shekara-shekara yana tsakanin 1,500 da 1,800 millimeters (60 da 70 in) a wurare masu tsawo, kodayake yana sauka zuwa 1,000 millimeters ko 40 inci tekun Tanganyika da kuma ɓacin rai daban-daban.[1][4] Yankin ruwan sama mafi yawa na ƙasar shine arewa maso gabas; ruwan sama a wurare mafi girma na iya zama kusan ninki biyu na abin da ake samu a ƙasa mai ƙasƙanci. [2][5] A sakamakon ruwan sama, noma a Burundi - wanda ke daukar ma'aikata tsakanin 80% da 90% na ma'aikatan kasar - ya dogara sosai da samar da amfanin gona.[6][7][3]

Yanayin yanayi mai sauƙi na Burundi da isasshen ruwan sama ya sa ya zama wuri mai dacewa don aikin noma mai zurfi, kodayake tasirin canjin yanayi yana sa ruwan sama ya zama ba zai yiwu ba.[3] Burundi ta fuskanci sauye-sauye na yawan ruwan sama da karancin ruwan sama a kusan kowane shekaru goma tun daga shekarun 1950.
