English: President of the republic of Finland Kyösti Kallio with Field Marshal Gustaf Mannerheim at Helsinki railway station on December 19, 1940. Behind them in dark suit is Risto Ryti, soon becoming the president of the republic. Lieutenant-General Erik Heinrichs (Chief of the General Staff) is to the left of Mannerheim and partly behind Kallio is Colonel Aladár Paasonen, his adjutant. Kallio had announced of resignation in November due to poor health and were to leave for Nivala, his home, for Christmas and retirement. The right hand of Kallio was paralysed after a heart attack in August, and has been tucked inside the coat. Few seconds after the photograph was taken, Kallio had another heart attack and died (according to the popular version) in the arms of Mannerheim as the band was playing Porilaisten marssi.
Suomi: Tasavallan presidentti Kyösti Kallio sotamarsalkka Gustaf Mannerheimin kanssa Helsingin rautatieasemalla 19. joulukuuta 1940. Heidän takanaan tummassa puvussa on pian tasavallan presidentiksi tuleva Risto Ryti. Mannerheimin vasemmalla puolella on yleisesikunnan päällikkö, kenraaliluutnantti Erik Heinrichs. Osittain Kallion takana on hänen adjutanttinsa eversti Aladár Paasonen.
This photograph is in the public domain in Finland, because either a period of 50 years has elapsed from the year of creation or the photograph was first published before 1966. The section 49a of the Finnish Copyright Act (404/1961, amended 607/2015) specifies that photographs not considered to be "works of art" become public domain 50 years after they were created. The 50 years from creation protection period came into force in 1991. Before that the protection period was 25 years from the year of first publication according to the §16 of the law of protection of photographs of 1961. Material already released to public domain according to the 1961 law remains in public domain, and therefore all photographs (but not photographic works of art) released before 1966 are in the public domain. See Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Finland for details.
