Ra'ayin canjin yanayi, yana da mahimmanci a fahimtar ɗumamar yanayi saboda hanyoyin mayar da martani na iya haɓaka ko rage tasirin kowane tilasta yanayi, don haka ya taka muhimmiyar rawa wajen ƙayyade ƙimar yanayi da yanayin canjin gaba. Ra'ayoyin baki daya shine tsari wanda canza adadin daya ya canza na biyu, kuma canjin a karo na biyu ya bijiro na farko. Tabbatacce mai kyau (ko ƙarfafawa) yana ƙarfafa canji a farkon yawa yayin da ra'ayoyi mara kyau (ko daidaitawa) ya rage shi.
Kalmar "tilastawa" na nufin canji wanda ke iya "tursasa" tsarin yanayi zuwa yanayin ɗumama ko sanyaya.[5] Misalin tilasta yanayi yana ƙaruwa da yanayin iskar gas. Ta hanyar ma'ana, tilastawa suna waje ne da tsarin sauyin yanayi yayin da martani ke ciki; a cikin mahimmanci, ra'ayoyin ra'ayoyi suna wakiltar ayyukan cikin tsarin. Wasu ra'ayoyin zasu iya yin aiki da keɓancewa ga sauran tsarin yanayi; wasu na iya zama an haɗa su sosai;[6] saboda haka yana iya zama da wahala a faɗi yawan gudummawar da wani tsari yake bayarwa.[7] Hakanan ana iya tilasta tilastawa ta dalilai na zamantakewar al'umma kamar su "buƙatun makamashin mai ko buƙatar samar da wake." Babban amsa mai kyau a cikin ɗumamar yanayi shine yanayin ɗumama don ƙara yawan tururin ruwa a sararin samaniya, wanda hakan ke haifar da ƙarin ɗumamar.[8] Babban ra'ayoyin marasa kyau sun fito ne daga dokar Stefan–Boltzmann, yawan zafin da yake fitowa daga Duniya zuwa sararin samaniya yana canzawa tare da iko na huɗu na yanayin zafin saman da yanayin duniya. Lura da kuma nazarin samfura suna nuna cewa akwai kyakkyawan ra'ayi mai kyau game da ɗumamar yanayi.[9] Manyan bayanai masu kyau na iya haifar da tasirin da kwatsam ko ba za'a iya sauya shi ba, ya danganta da ƙimar da girman canjin yanayi.[10][6]
