Kwamfuta virus nau'in malware ne wanda idan yashiga Kwamfuta, yakan kwaikwayi kansa ta hanyar gyara chanza wasu mahimman shirye-shiryen da tsare-tsare na kwamfuta tare da shigar da sakonsa a cikin waɗannan shirye-shiryen. Idan wannan kwafin ya yi nasara, sai a ce wuraren da abin ya shafa suna "kamuwa da cuta" da kwayar cutar kwamfuta, ma'anar da aka samo daga ƙwayoyin cutar.

Aikin ilimi na farko a kan ka'idar shirye-shiryen kwamfuta mai sarrafa kansa da akayi a shekara ta 1949 wanda John von Neumann ya ba da laccoci a Jami'ar Illinois game da "Theory and Organization of Complicated Automata". Daga baya aka buga aikin von Neumann a matsayin "Theory of self reproducing automata". A cikin makalarsa von Neumann ya bayyana yadda za a tsara tsarin kwamfuta don sake yin da kansa.
