Legon Observer, mujallar Legon Society for National Affairs (LSNA), an kafa ta ne a watan Yulin 1966 a matsayin buga mako biyu.[1] Tare da tushe a cikin ilimin kimiyyar siyasa na Jami'ar Ghana a Legon, ta kafa kanta a matsayin muhimmiyar murya yayin mulkin soja na National Liberation Council.[2] A zabukan 1969 ta yi kira da "karfi na uku", tsakanin Komla Agbeli Gbedemah National Alliance of Liberals da Kofi Abrefa Busia's Progress Party.[3] Wasu sun goyi bayan Jam'iyyar All People Congress, karkashin jagorancin John Bilson, wanda daga baya ya tsaya takarar shugaban kasa a matsayin dan takarar Third Force Party. 1974 zuwa 1978 an dakatar da jaridar yadda ya kamata:[1] Janar Acheampong ya hana musayar kasashen waje don toshe shigo da jaridu, tare da kama editoci da tsare su.[4]

A cikin 2007 an ƙaddamar da New Legon Observer, a ƙarƙashin rijistar edita na Ernest Aryeetey, sannan Daraktan Cibiyar Nazarin Ƙididdiga, Nazarin Al'umma da Tattalin Arziki (ISSER) kuma yanzu (shekara ta 2013) mataimakiyar shugabar Jami'ar Ghana.[5][6]
