[gyara sashe | gyara masomin]An kafa Jami'ar Garissa a cikin 2011 a matsayin kwalejin da ke cikin Jami'ar Moi, a cikin kayan aikin tsohon Kwalejin Horar da Malamai ta Garissa.[3]
An kafa ɗakin karatu na makarantar a cikin 1996, a matsayin hanya ga tsohon Kwalejin horar da malamai. Daga baya aka sanya ma'aikata a shekara ta 2006.[4]
Ita ce makarantar sakandare ta farko kuma kawai ta jama'a don bayar da darussan digiri na jami'a da aka amince da su a Lardin Arewa maso Gabas. Cibiyar tana ba da darussan a makarantun ilimi, kimiyyar bayanai, da zane-zane da kimiyyar zamantakewa.
Jami'ar Garissa ta sami Yarjejeniya don cikakken matsayin jami'a a ranar 23/10/2017 daga Shugaba Uhuru Kenyatta.
Mataimakin Shugaban kasa shine Farfesa Ahmed Warfa, Mataimakin Mataimakin Babban Shugaban kasa (Financi da Gudanarwa) shine Farfesa Nganga Stephen Irura, kuma Mataimakin Majalisa (Masana) shine Farọ Hussein A. Golicha. Jami'ar tana da ma'aikata 75.[5]
Harin 2015
[gyara sashe | gyara masomin]A ranar 2 ga Afrilu, 2015, 'yan bindiga sun mamaye Jami'ar Garissa, inda suka kashe dalibai 148 kuma suka ji rauni 79 ko fiye.[6]
