Town, Afirka ta Kudu.[2] Mutai ta koma Jami'ar Cape Town inda ta kammala digirinta a shekarar 2014. Mutai tana cikin 'yan uwa goma sha biyar da L'Oréal-UNESCO Awards ga Mata a Kimiyya suka zaɓa don karɓar malanta na duniya don ci gaba da ayyukan binciken su a shekarar 2012.[3] A halin yanzu ita malama ce a sashin ilimin harhaɗa magunguna da magunguna a Jami'ar Nairobi kuma shugabar sashen Pharmacognosy.
