Gadar Eko na daya daga cikin gadoji uku da suka hada tsibirin Legas zuwa cikin garin Legas, sauran kuma gadoji na uku na Mainland da Carter.

An yi gadar Eko don isar da mutanen gari cikin sauri. Bolu Akande ya fara kawo shawarar a taron shugabannin (summit of leaders) a 1963 amma babu wanda ya saurare shi sai 1965. Shi ne babban aiki na farko da Julius Berger ta gudanar wanda Shehu Shagari ya amince da shi wanda a lokacin ya kasance Ministan Ayyuka a lokacin Jamhuriyyar Najeriya ta farko.

Gadar dai ta taso ne daga Ijora da ke kan kasa sannan ta kare a unguwar Apongbon da ke tsibirin Legas. Sashin tafkin dake kasan gadar ya kai nisan mita 430. An gina gadar da kuma shimfidarta na mita 1350 a matakai tsakanin 1965 zuwa 1975. Yana aiki a matsayin hanyar da aka fi so don zirga-zirgar ababen hawa zuwa tsibirin Legas daga yankunan Apapa da Surulere na Legas.

Gyaran gadar na farko ya fara ne daga ranar 23 ga Agusta 2014 zuwa 27 ga watan Oktoba 2014 wanda ya dauki kwanaki 71. Gwamnatin jihar ta sanar da cewa gyaran ba zai sa a rufe gadar gaba daya ba sai dai a gyara gadar cikin lokaci.[2] An rufe gadar wani bangare don gyarawa a ranar 4 ga Yuli 2020.[3] Ma’aikatar ayyuka ta tarayyar Najeriya ta gyara kashi na biyu na gadar daga ranar 23 ga Oktoba zuwa 9 ga Nuwamba 2021.[4]
