An kafa Jami'ar Godfrey Okoye ( Jami'ar GO ) a cikin 2009 da Uban Reverend Professor Dr. Christian Anieke na Diocese Katolika na Enugu. Jami'ar, wacce ta samu lasisin fara aiki a ranar 3 ga Nuwamba 2009 daga Hukumar Kula da Jami'o'i ta kasa (NUC), na cikin Diocese na Katolika na Enugu a Najeriya . Ita ce jami'a ta farko da wata Diocese ta Katolika ta mallaka a Afirka.

A cikin 2009 jami'ar ta fara da ɗalibai 215 kuma ta karɓi ɗalibai 1,200 a ƙarshen 2012.

A ranar 1 ga Disamba, 2013, GOU ta fara shirin ayyuka na tsawon mako guda don murnar taronta na farko. An baiwa dalibai 100 digiri na farko a lokacin bikin karshe a ranar 7 ga Disamba 2013.

GOU memba ne na Kwamitin Mataimakin Shugaban Jami'o'in Najeriya (CVC). [1]
