An zabi Dakta Dalhatu Umaru Sangari a matsayin Sanata mai wakiltar mazabar Taraba ta Kudu a jihar Taraba, Najeriya a farkon Jamhuriya ta Hudu ta Najeriya, inda ya tsaya takara a dandalin All People Party (APP). Ya hau mulki a ranar 29 ga watan Mayun shekara ta 1999.

Ya zama Mataimakin Shugaban Makarantar Sakandare ta Jami'ar (1996 - 1998). An zabe shi a matsayin sanata a lokacin mulkin rikon kwarya na Sani Abacha, amma bai hau kujerar sa ba kafin rasuwar Abacha. Bayan ya hau kujerar sa a Majalisar Dattawa a watan Yunin shekara ta 1999 an kuma naɗa Sangari kwamitoci kan Muhalli, Kwadago, Albarkatun Ruwa (mataimakin shugaba), Ilimi, Labarai da Harkokin Gwamnati. An kuma nada shi mamba a kwamitin da Sanata Idris Ibrahim Kuta ke jagoranta wanda ya binciki yuwuwar almubazzaranci na kudi a cikin kyaututtukan kwangila tsakanin watan Yunin shekara ta 1999 zuwa watan Yulin shekara ta 2000, wanda ya zargi Sanatoci da dama.[2] [1] [3][4]
