John Azuta-Mbata an zaɓe shi a matsayin Sanata mai wakiltar Ribas ta Gabas a jihar Ribas dake Najeriya a farkon jamhuriya ta huɗu a Najeriya, inda ya tsaya takara a ƙarƙashin jam'iyyar PDP. Ya fara aiki a ranar 29 ga watan Mayun shekarar 1999.[1] An sake zaɓen shi a cikin watan Afrilun shekara ta 2003.[2]

An haifi Azuta-Mbata a cikin watan Janairun shekarar 1960. Ya samu digirin digirgir kan harkokin gwamnati a jami'ar Ibadan. Ya kuma kasance memba a majalisar gudanarwa ta jami'ar kimiyya da fasaha ta jihar Rivers, Port Harcourt.[3] Bayan ya hau kujerarsa a Majalisar Dattawa a cikin watan Yunin shekarar 1999, an naɗa shi a kwamitocin tsaro, Ayyuka & Gidaje, Harkokin Mata, Kuɗi da Kasafin Kuɗi (Mataimakin Shugaban ƙasa), Watsa Labarai, Ayyuka na Musamman da Bashi na cikin gida da na waje.[4]

A cikin watan Afrilun shekarar 2005 Hukumar Yaƙi da Cin Hanci da Rashawa da sauran Laifukan da ke da alaƙa da cin hanci da rashawa (ICPC) ta gurfanar da Azuta-Mbata da sauran su a gaban kuliya bisa zarginsu da hannu a badaƙalar cin hancin Naira miliyan 55 a kasafin kuɗin ƙasar. Haka kuma an gurfanar da tsohon shugaban majalisar dattawa Adolphus Wabara da tsohon ministan ilimi Fabian Osuji.[5] An ce sun nema, sun karɓa kuma sun raba Naira miliyan 55 don sauƙaƙa zartar da kasafin kuɗin ma’aikatar ilimi.[6] Bayan tsawaita shari’a, a ranar 1 ga watan Yunin shekarar 2010, wani cikakken kwamitin kotun ɗaukaka ƙara da ke Abuja ya yi watsi da dukkan tuhume-tuhumen da ake tuhumarsa da shi, ya yi watsi da waɗanda ake tuhuma tare da wanke su.[7]
