Shan taba itace al'adar kona taba da shan hayakin ta. Ana iya shakar hayakin, kamar yadda ake yi da sigari, ko kuma kawai fitar da shi ta baki, kamar yadda ake yi da bututu da sigari. An yi imanin cewa an Kuma fara shan sigari ne tun daga 5000-3000 BC a Mesoamerica da Kudancin Amirka.[1] An gabatar da taba a Eurasia a ƙarshen karni na 17 ta hannun Turawan mulkin mallaka, inda ta bi hanyoyin kasuwanci na yau da kullum. Al'adar shan sigari ta fuskanci soke-soke tun farkon shigowarta daga yammacin duniya amma ta shigar da kanta cikin wasu sassa na al'ummomi da dama kafin ta yadu a kafin bullo da na'urorin sarrafa taba sigari.[2][3]

Shan sigari ita ce mafi sananniyar hanyar shan taba, kuma taba ita ce mafi akasarin abunda da ake sha na taba. Sau da yawa ana kuma haɗe ganyen tabar da wasu sinadarai[4] sannan a kone su. Shi hayakin ana shakarsa da abubuwan da ke dauke dashi ta hanyar alveoli a cikin huhu ko mucosa na baka.[5] Abubuwa da yawa a cikin hayakin taba sigari suna haifar da abubuwa da damai a cikin jijiyoyi, waɗanda ke haɓaka bugun zuciya, faɗakarwa [6] da lokacin amsawa, da sauransu.
