An haifi Abubakar Ayuba ranar 12 ga watan yuni na shekara ta alif dari tara da arba'in da biyar miladiyya 1945. Ya halarci Kwalejin Sojoji da Kwalejin Ma’aikata Jaji a shekara ta alif 1978, da kuma MNI National Institute for Policy & Strategic Studies, Kuru . A cikin sojojin, ya zama kwamandan Siginar kungiyar sojoji sannan da wani babban janar. A karkashin mulkin soja an nada shi Ministan Sadarwa, gwamnan mulkin soja na jihar Kaduna, Shugaban Gudanarwa da kuma Shugaban Manufofi da Tsare-tsare. An naɗa shi gwamnan jihar Kaduna a watan Agusta a shekara ta alif 1990 a lokacin mulkin soja na Janar Ibrahim Babangida, yana mikawa zababben gwamnan farar hula Mohammed Dabo Lere a watan Janairu a shekara ta alif 1992 a farkon Jamhuriya ta Uku ta Najeriya da ta zubar da ciki.

An zaɓi Ayuba a karkashin jam'iyyar People's Democratic Party (PDP) a watan Afrilun shekarar 2007. An naɗa shi kwamitocin kimiyya da fasaha, harkokin 'yan sanda, sojojin ruwa, tsara kasa, hadewa da hadin kai, tsaro & sojoji da sadarwa A watan Janairun shekarata 2008, jaridar Leadership ta ruwaito cewa Ayuba yana daya daga cikin sanatoci na farko da aka soke zaben sa., amma cewa yana neman shawarar daga kara.

A watan Satumban shekarar 2008, an bashi lambar yabo ta 'Nelson Mandela Gold Award' saboda kyakkyawan jagoranci da gudummawar da yake baiwa al'umma[1]
